Long Black Flat White Written by David Gauci. 20 January 2000 Renowned local theatre personalities, David Gauci and Matthew Carey, from the Adelaide duo Straight Out are proud to announce the release of their debut recording, "Long Black Flat White". The twelve tracks on the cd range from the sublime to the ridiculous. It features beautiful ballads, smouldering torch songs, up tempo swing numbers and a comical ode to one of the great icons of twentieth century gastronomy. According to Matthew, "the songs represent a quick overview of the six years that David and I have worked together. There are show tunes, a couple of Sinatra standards and a selection of songs we've just been waiting for the right time and opportunity to record." Straight Out have always been about creating their own opportunities. After establishing themselves in the local music scene with their self-crafted tributes to Sinatra and Broadway, David and Matthew stretched out to produce a number of concert and cabaret features that have debuted in local music and cultural festivals. "Long Black Flat White" is an entirely self-funded recording and features a wealth of South Australian talent. In addition to Gauci's singing and Carey's keyboard work, the recording also captures the talents of some of Adelaide's finest musicians - playing bass, drums, horns and strings as well as providing some fun backing vocals. Guest vocalists for two duets join Gauci and a special cameo vocal appearance by a well-known media personality is made. The term that Gauci has coined to describe the overall style of the album is 'musitude'. "Musitude is a particular blend of music and attitude which really captures my imagination and speaks to me." The album was launched on Wednesday December 22nd and is available for purchase directly from Straight Out (at shows) or at selected music stores. Stores stocking the album include; B Sharp Records - Rundle Street, Dillons Music - Norwood & Burnside Village, The Muses - Rundle Mall, Elizabeth & Modbury and Big Star Records - Rundle Street, Norwood, Marion & Ridgehaven, Blue Beat Records - Hindley Street, The Compact Disk Shop - Unley, John Davis Records - Twin Plaza Adelaide, Murphy Sisters Bookshop - Norwood, Mountain Music - Mount Barker, Central Station - Rundle Mall & Lobethal Tea Rooms - Lobethal.
